Maresias Nightlife: Where to Go, When It Heats Up and How to Get Back

Party lights at night

Short answer: Maresias nightlife is concentrated in the village center, on Av. Dr. Francisco Loup and the nearby streets, and in the bars and beach clubs along the beachfront. It really heats up in summer, at New Year's Eve, during Carnival and on long holiday weekends; the rest of the year there are bars with music, but things quiet down midweek. For couples, the best plan is to walk to dinner and a drink, then sleep on a quiet street, away from the avenue.

Where is the nightlife in Maresias?

In the village center, around Praça do Surf, on the Canto da Barra side. The main strip is Av. Dr. Francisco Loup, the main avenue, which is the built-up stretch of the Rio-Santos highway itself. Bars and restaurants are spread along it and a few nearby streets; the best known is Rua Sebastião Romão César, which is lined with bars and restaurants and gets packed in high season.

On the beachfront, the city lists seaside bars and beach clubs. Along the stretch where the avenue runs right by the sea, there are beach clubs on the sand that host ticketed parties at Carnival and New Year's Eve. To get to know the different areas before you book, see where to stay in Maresias.

When does Maresias nightlife heat up?

Season What nights are like
Summer Big parties with DJs; bars and nightclubs fill up on weekends
New Year's Eve Ticketed parties on the beachfront and at beach clubs
Carnival In 2026, the city projected 93.95% hotel occupancy across the municipality and about 500,000 visitors
Long holiday weekends Over Holy Week (Easter) 2026, projected hotel occupancy was 76.75%
Rest of the year Bars with regular music nights, but the village center is quieter Monday through Thursday

Looking for a party? Go in summer or on a holiday, and book early. Want a quiet night? Weekdays outside high season are a different Maresias. For the big party dates, see our guides to New Year's Eve in Maresias and Carnival in Maresias.

What are nights like: crowd, music and hours?

The crowd is mixed, with lots of young people. The city highlights its big summer parties, with international DJs, plus bars and themed venues with music all year round. Some ticketed parties don't admit anyone under 18, even with their parents.

Hours vary by event. At the free Carnival 2026 dances on Praça do Surf, the band played from 8 pm to midnight, and on Tuesday a bloco (a Carnival street parade) also set off at 3 pm. At the ticketed parties ringing in 2026, the gates opened at 9:30 or 10 pm. For other dates, check the times on the ticket sales page.

Are there noise rules in Maresias?

Yes. A 2021 São Sebastião decree bans excessively loud sound in streets, squares and on beaches, as well as in businesses and homes. At the time, the lowest fine was R$ 5,490.

There are also limits by time of day. In streets and squares, the December 2020 amendment to the noise ordinance set a limit of 60 decibels from 7 am to 9:59 pm and kept the 45-decibel limit from 10 pm to 6:59 am. The rule curbs excess, but it doesn't guarantee quiet: if you sleep next to a bar or a beach club, you'll hear the party.

What's a night out for two like in Maresias?

A simple plan, no car needed:

  1. Late afternoon at the inn. At Villa Blu, the sun sets behind the mountains, and you can watch it from the lookout. Beforehand, you can stop by the sauna, open from 10 am to 10 pm, or the heated pool.
  2. Walk to dinner. The village center has everything from fine dining to pizza places and burger joints. See our guide on where to eat in Maresias.
  3. A drink. Pick a bar with music and stay as long as you like.
  4. Heading back. A quiet street and a peaceful room. The Deluxe Suite, the inn's largest suite, has 22 m², a king bed, a sofa and a desk.

On weekdays outside high season, the night can end right at the inn. The pool water stays between 27 °C and 29 °C all year round, and the pool is lit up at night. See what Maresias in winter is like.

How do you get back safely?

  • On foot and in a group, along the busier streets. The avenue is a highway: take care when crossing.
  • By ride-hailing app. Uber says UberX is available in São Sebastião.
  • By taxi. The city has 82 licensed taxi operators, at taxi stands around town. Save a number before you head out.
  • Don't drive. If you're drinking, leave the car parked.

In summer, Operação Verão (the state's summer security operation) steps up policing. In the 2025/2026 season, São Sebastião received 161 additional officers from the Polícia Militar (the state police), with support tents at two spots in Maresias.

Can you enjoy the nightlife and still sleep in peace?

Yes, as long as you don't sleep in the middle of the party. If you stay on the village center beachfront or on the avenue, you'll live with music and traffic, especially in summer and on holidays. Villa Blu is on a quiet street, a 10-minute walk from the beach: close enough to walk, far from the noise. It's rated 4.8 for sleep quality on Tripadvisor.

The next morning is unhurried too: breakfast is served from 8 to 10:30 am and check-out is by noon. See what else the inn offers couples on our couples page.
