Heated Pool in Maresias: Why Winter Is Worth the Trip Too

Pool lit up at night, with hanging lights and colorful windows

Many people only think of Maresias in summer. Those who visit between May and August find a different beach: quieter, more affordable and with surprisingly sunny days.

What winter is like in Maresias

Days are usually mild and sunny, with cooler nights. The beach is empty, traffic over the mountain road is lighter and restaurants seat you without a wait. It's the season for travelers looking for rest and unhurried outings.

A heated pool makes all the difference

At Pousada Villa Blu, the pool is heated all year round, with the water between 27 °C and 29 °C. You can swim after a hike or in the late afternoon, even on cooler days. The sauna, open every day from 10 am to 10 pm, rounds out the day, and the lookout offers one of the most beautiful sunsets of your stay.

Lower prices and more cashback

Low season, from May to August, has the best rates of the year. At Villa Blu, direct bookings for stays in June, July and August also earn 10% cashback with Clube Villa Blu, more than triple the usual amount (3%). And the earlier you book, the lower the rate.

Things to do in winter

  • Hiking trails and waterfalls, more pleasant in mild weather
  • Boat trips to nearby beaches on calm-sea days
  • Surfing: winter brings swells that draw experienced surfers
  • Local caiçara (traditional coastal) cuisine with no wait at restaurants

Packing tip

Bring a light jacket for the evenings and a swimsuit: with the heated pool, you'll use it.
