Traveling to Maresias with a Pet: What to Know Before You Go

Dog running along the water's edge

Traveling to the coast with your dog takes extra planning, from choosing where to stay to the rules for beach access. Before you book your trip to Maresias, sort out a few details so the getaway is great for both you and your pet.

Confirm the pet policy before you book

Not every place accepts animals, and the rules vary a lot from one to another: size limits, extra fees, areas where pets are allowed. Always get confirmation in writing before you pay for your booking.

Pousada Villa Blu does not accept pets. Our property isn't set up for animals, and we'd rather tell you clearly so you can plan your trip without surprises. Guide dogs for people with visual impairments are always welcome, as guaranteed by Lei 11.126/2005 (Brazil's guide dog law). If your dog is coming along, look for lodging that is explicitly pet friendly. If your dog is staying home, a dog hotel or a trusted pet sitter in your city is the most worry-free option.

Taking your dog to the beach

Find out the rules for animals on the sand, which may vary depending on the stretch of beach and the time of year. On busy days, early morning and late afternoon are calmer, and the sand is less hot on paws.

What to pack for your pet

  • Fresh water and a collapsible bowl
  • Collar, leash and an ID tag with your phone number
  • Poop bags
  • Up-to-date vaccination record
  • A shady spot for your pet to rest on the hottest days

On the road

The drive from São Paulo to Maresias takes longer on the eve of a holiday. Plan stops so your pet can drink water and stretch, and never leave your pet alone in the car.
