How to Get to Maresias: Routes, Distances and Travel Tips

Winding road through the mountains

Maresias is in the municipality of São Sebastião, on the North Coast of São Paulo state, and is one of the most popular beach destinations for people leaving the city of São Paulo and its metro area.

By car

From Greater São Paulo, the drive usually takes the Rodovia dos Tamoios (Tamoios Highway) to Caraguatatuba, then continues along the Rio-Santos highway (BR-101) to Maresias. With light traffic, the trip usually takes just a few hours, but on the eve of a holiday and in high season it's worth leaving early, since traffic on the Tamoios tends to increase considerably.

By bus

You can also get to Maresias by bus, with regular routes from São Paulo to São Sebastião. From there, you can continue to the beach by local transportation or a ride-hailing app.

Coming from other coastal towns

If you're already on the North Coast, in Caraguatatuba, downtown São Sebastião or Ilhabela, for example, Maresias is a short drive along the Rio-Santos, making it easy to add the beach to a wider itinerary around the region.

Plan your arrival

Booking ahead not only secures your stay but also lets you plan your arrival time calmly, especially on days with heavy traffic on the road.
